The Padlock

So this morning,  I was preparing for chapel at school. I ran over to the gym to open the sound closet, and I reminded my self that it was no longer a key lock, but a pad lock.

The reality is the last time I messed with one of those was in high school and if I think back I hardly used the actual lock.  And as you guessed it,  I felt like a freshman on orientation day struggling with that darned lock.

Frustrated and angry I got some help and after watching it being opened and trying it myself a few times,  I am fairly confident that I can do it on my own.

So after apologizing to my colleague for my bad attitude. God reminded that for us to get the most out of our relationship with Him we have to not only know the the combination to the lock but also how to use it correctly.

We are reminded to seek first His Kingdom, That is like going toward the lock to open it,  the combination is actually how we open it,  it requires me to read my bible pray everyday and then put my faith into practice,

if I do any of these by themselves I will not unlock what God has for me

If I pray and but  don’t read my bible,  I cannot discern God’s voice, if I pray and read my bible but I don’t life out my faith I am not fulfilling the great commission.  If I read my bible but I don’t pray how am I suppose to understand what I read and apply it. If I just put my faith into “practice” but I don’t read my bible and pray, I am nothing more than a social justice crusader, who will pick up any cause even it hurts Gods heart.

Its a combination,  it works in sync,  Gods word, Prayer and Action, that is what is needed to unlock your potential as God’s hands and feet.

The rocks will cry out

“He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!””

Luke 19:40

Context here is Palm Sunday and Christ entry, but from a worship leading perspective this is a refreshing reminder. Sometime it’s easy to think that people’s response to worship is because of your skill and talent as a musician and singer. This verse reminds me that worship, corporate worship is the people’s  response to Gods goodness

I have been in different worship setting  over the years where the skill and talent of the teams leading where sometimes lacking but the worshippers assembled were so passionate about their God that the worship leader was an after thought as those gathered expressed their love of God through song

Lord help me never to forget I am just a tool you choose to use and to be aware that I am replaceable, if need be rocks could cry out and give you the praise and glory due your name

David and the army commanders then appointed men from the families of Asaph,
1st Chronicles 25:1a

Musicians/worship leaders where chosen by the King and His military commanders, a worship leaders position is not just one of leading worship but one of leading the congregation in spiritual battle, therefore it was imperative that the King and Military commanders chose those individuals to serve in that capacity they had to be soldiers spiritual soldiers not just musicians.

As we go out to lead the congregation this morning we need to realize that corporate worship is a battlefield, a battle for the hearts and minds of those within the congregation,
Will we be used to lead God people into the “throne room” with softened hearts to hear Gods word or will we be entertaining for an hour and then go home?

Lord may we lead your people closer to you this morning, we pray that the songs we sing and word that is preached touch our hearts and lives in a way that we and our congregation will never be the same

Amen
